To become a professional animal trainer, you will need to become certified. Depending on the state that you are in, it could require years of experience and/or schooling.
To own a business, or work as a trainer for an employer, you will most likely need a certification, no matter what state you are in. This proves that you have been professionally educated. Dog trainers typically go through a basic schooling program to become certified, but the process to be an exotic animal trainer can be much more rigorous.
I recommend looking up the requirements in your state to become a certified animal trainer (depending on the type of animals you are looking to train). Each state, program and level of certification are going to be different.
