Totally empty 13 quarts. Dextron III synthetic is the type GM uses, and normally doesn't need to have any added unless work is does on the transmission, or fluid cooling lines
13 quarts total, for all 99-04 models
transmission has worn/bad seals.should have a trans shop check it. Most don't charge to check.
how do you check transmission fluid level in a 2001 chevy metro
2001 Malibu's have a sealed transmission. They don't have a dip stick.
dextron 111 fluid is reccomended in all chevys.
it doesnt have a dipstick. the malibu's have a sealed transmission that shouldn't need service for up to 100,000 miles. there is a trans fluid cap under the throttle body and exhaust.
i just put 6 ltrs of dextron 6 in my 2000 Malibu
there is RED CAP on the fill hole it will say TRANS FLUID there is a bolt on passenger side you will remove then check while running to see if fluid runs out. pain to do ..
Red.
If the 1999 is like my 2001 Malibu. the transmission is a sealed system (no dipstick to check fluid level) and you need to take it to a mechanic (dealer if you have extended warranty). This answer, How_can_you_add_transmisson_fluid_to_1999, might help you to DIY your transmission.
There is a red fill cap on transmission bell housing under the brake master cylinder. You have to look real close to find it. There is a bolt on the passenger side of the transmission that you remove to check level. Add fluid until it runs out of the bolt hole.
Low brake fluid possible
