1 lb per person for moderate leftovers, 1 1/4 or more for more leftovers, or if you have big eaters?

That really depends on how many leftovers you want, and how many meals you would like to make out of it.

Last Christmas we had invited family and friends over to celebrate Jesus birth (we're Christians) it was about 20 people and we cooked i think a 18 pound one. We had left overs.

Answer:

It depends on how you purchase your turkey and the number of turkey eaters there will be in the crowd. Some folks are vegetarians! Figure on:

  • 1 pound of unstuffed, whole turkey per person for moderate leftovers.
  • 3/4 pound per person if you're buying just turkey breasts
  • 1/2 pound per person for boneless turkey breasts
  • 1-1/4 pounds per person if you're buying a prestuffed, frozen bird.
  • Step 3

Figure on about 3/4 pound per person if you're buying just a turkey breast. Allow 1/2 pound per person for boneless turkey breast.

  • Step 4

Allow about 1-1/4 pounds per person if you're buying a prestuffed, frozen bird.

You should allow for 3/4 to 1 pound per person (weight prior to roasting,) for generous servings. The amount consumed will depend upon the amount of other items being served. Most nutritional information for roast turkey is based upon a serving size of 4oz. In the U.S. common household servings are 2-3 times those used for nutritional analysis.

Turkey per person depends on the load of turkey being enjoyed by each person. Several ounces should suffice.

What group makes up 20 percent of Turkey's population?

It depends whether you are dividing people by religion or by ethnicity. Roughly 20% of Turkey is ALEVI, a religious minority which is similar to Shiite Sufism and roughly 20% of Turkey is KURDISH, an ethnic minority that lives primarily in southeast Turkey. While there is some overlap, most Alevis are Turks and most Kurds are Sunni. (Most of the rest of Turkey is Sunni Turks.)
