AnswerLook at the rear wheel nuts. If you have five, the truck can carry half a ton. If you have six it can carry three quarters of a ton. If you have dual rear wheels, it can carry one ton. Before you start moving alot of weight with your truck, make sure the brakes are in good shape. Carrying weight isn't much good if you can't slow it down! Good luck and be careful. On my '94 Sierra, The bumber is actually stamped, near the ball mount hole, with the bumber load limits. I believe it to be 200 lb tongue weight. Tongue weight is the amount of actual weight pushing down on the bumber at the ball mount, not the total weight of the trailer.
