If the drive shaft bearing on a 2001 Toyota Solara is going bad do you have to replace the engine?

Good news, since the Solara is a front wheel drive car there is no "drive shaft" so engine replacement wouldn't be necessary. <smart alek mode off> Even if a bearing on one of the halfshafts going from the transmission to the front wheels is bad only the bearing would need to be replaced. If it's on the transmission side it 'might' involve removal of the transmission. I'd suggest you purchase a Clymer manual for your car for more information. They're available at many auto supply stores or at Amazon.com. You can also download the factory service manual from Toyota for about $10. Cheers
