Depends on if you want it for a collectors item or a usable rifle.
Brittish made Lee Enfield rifles went through many changes up to and including the No4. The No4 was made close to the end of WWII. The Brittish battle needs shifted to jungle warfair after WWII. The No4 was not well suited for the jungle. The No4 is not very common but is not very rare either.
Value of NAY firearm is based on exact make, model, and condition. If your Enfield is in the original military configuration (not sporterized) and in good condition, value could range from about $250-$400.
Using solely original equipment, no. It can be done, but may require aftermarket parts or self-manufacture of the mount and bracket.
Please read your question over, and ask again- but a Mk1 No4 and a Mk1 No4.........???
The Lee Enfield is a Controlled Round Feed rifle. The Lee Enfield Rifles (SMLE and other later versions for example the NO4 Mk1 and 2) are all Controlled Round Feed. The Lee Enfield bolt controls the round as soon as it comes out of the magazine. This prevents double feeding etc. Controlled Round Feed does not require a long non-rotating extractor, however that's the feature of the best known ones like the Mauser and its derivatives.
They used the MLE (Magazine Lee-Enfield) version from 1895-1907 And they started using the SMLE (Short Magazine Lee-Enfied version in 1907 and still use it. There are various versions of the SMLE firing different calibre and such. They are also a popular hunting and competition rifle now. <><><><><> The Enfield No4 Mk 1 was replaced as a standard service rifle by the L1A1 about 1954. However, some are still in use today for special purposes.
There have been several rifles made as military rifles in caliber .303 British (.303 Enfield) The most common have been the SMLR (Short, Magazine, Lee-Enfield) known as the No 1 Mk III, and it successor, the No4 Mk I. The link at the bottom of the page will take you to a website on surplus military arms, Scroll down the left side to the rifle you want, and it will take you to an article on that rifle, with photos. Can't tell you much from a serial number alone. ENGLAND is an import requirement, telling you which country it was made it.
