You have to pull apart the engine and transmission. If your asking this question, I would belive the best way to replace the cutch is taking it to the repair shop.
It would be considered a major repair only because of the time involved to replace it. The transmission must be removed to access the torque converter.
You need to remove the transmission from the vehicle. Most people would take this to a repair shop.
Your owners manual lists a transmission oil change as regular maintenance. If someone is recommending a flush it would replace this service. If there is a fault and they are recommending a flush it is to late, the transmission needs repair.
The approximate cost to repair your automatic transmission would be $1,200 dollars.
It would be cheaper to repair or replace the automatic transmission. There are too many differences between a standard transmission and an automatic to economically swap in a standard.
How would i repair a 1993 ford explorer 4.0 liter A4LD Transmission?
The starter can be bought for around $140. It should take no more than 1 hour to replace it. I would expect to pay no more than $225 for this repair. Of course what you pay depends on where you take it for the repair. A Lexus dealer will charge you way more than an independent shop. This is a very easy repair that any decent mechanic can perform. Seek out a reliable independent shop.
Replace your transmission pump or get a new transmission.
Hey Debbie==It varies as to what part of the country you live in and to what is wrong with it. Check a couple of local garages. Goodluck Joe I had it done on a 93 Camry V6 XLE and it costs about $3,000. Only because the transmission was from Lexus because of the engine and that it is basically a Lexus ES300 with a different badge. But the cost might be different depending on the model of your vehicle and like they said before whats wrong with it. My transmission was totally gone and it was completely replaced and has a 3 year warranty. Just make sure that you arent getting ripped off by the mechanics I had a 93 LE transmission replaced in 2001 for $2200 in Connecticut
