Probably more than you think, because they will have to replace the cable all the way back to the breaker in addition to changing the outlet itself. The exact cost will depend heavily on your home's construction. He might have to crawl through the attic, or in the crawlspace under the home, if it has one. How far from the breaker panel to the outlet? Some wallboard may have to be removed. Your electrician cannot legally use the existing two-conductor-with-ground cable that you have now. You really need to have someone physically look at your installation to get a realistic bid.

It all depends on if you have only 3 wires in the wall. If that is the case a new four wire circuit will have to be ran which will cost you more depending on how hard it will be to get the wire to that part of the house. Electritions are typically about 75 bucks an hour depending on where you live. You'll have to just make some calls and ask. If its just for a dryer most have option to put a three wire pigtail cord on your new dryer

The price of electricians vary from one area to another. In my area 65 dollars an hour is the going rate. Phone an electrical contractor in your area to find out the going rate. Ask the contractor if there is a charge rate for them to come out to your place to do an estimate. If there is find another electrical contractor. Next question is to ask if the project needs a permit to have the job done by them. The answer should be yes, if not find another contractor. By asking these question, as a home owner you can feel assured that the project will be done to code and inspected by an electrical inspector. If a mishap occurs from the installation, your home insurance will ask to see the electrical permit. By showing that the project was done correctly, there will be no reason for them to not pay the claim.

What if your dryer in your house was a 110 voltage dryer now it just died you need to either have an electrian come in and convert your outlet to a 220 v or get a dryer that is 110 v What is your best?

Electricians can be very expensive. The electrician will most likely have to run a completely new set of larger wires depending on the amp's of your new dryer. If its a fairly short run from your main elect panel to your laundry room and there is enough space in the panel that it might be the best option. 220volt will save money in the long run due to the fact that it will heat up much faster and much more efficiently. But the upfront cost will be high. To be honest with how good and clean the new dryers are I would recommend just spending the extra money on a better dryer. Heck you might even be able to take the family on a vacation with the money you'll save by leaving an electrician out of the equation. <<>> An electrician is a person that comes to fix the problem that home owner's thought they could repair to save themselves some money.

Can a gas dryer be converted to an electric one?

For a gas dryer in the US you will need a 120 volt outlet to plug into. The old electric dryer was 220 volts so that outlet cannot be used as it is currently. Second, you will need to have a gas line run to the site of the new dryer. That should be it.

What kind of gas a dryer use?

Most Dryers do not use gas nowadays, so that question might not be answered; but most dryers now run on water and electricity.

How do you fix an outlet that is not working if it works when it is taken apart but not when it is is put back in the box?

if this is a regular 110 plugin, just replace it. I suspect that you are either shorting out the wire when it is folded back into the box or the wire has been flexed too much and when folded back into the box is creating a disconnect. In either case, check the box for scorch marks, the wire for weak points or breaks in the insullation, *and* replace the receptical.

What is the cost to wire a new dryer outlet?

Depends on several factors. How far is dryer from electric panel? Is it gas or electric? Is there easy access to where wire must be run? Must an electric permit be obtained? With the price of copper a 100 ft. Run off 10 AWG wire may cost about $100 and another $30 for a breaker and $10 for outlet. Then there is labor which will vary by area, but may cost at least $50 per hour. So you are likely in the $300 price range. Get a free estimate from your local electrician.

How much does it cost to switch gas dryer hookup to electric hookup?

It depends on what kind of dryer you are going to put in though I recommend to put in a 110 dryer so there will be no need for a contractor as the outlet for your washer is usually rated to supply enough amps for both appliances.

Are gas dryers more efficient than electric?

Technically, yes. However, if you're trying to figure out if it will be cost-effective to switch from one energy source to another, the answer is no. A gas dryer will generally cost $50-70 more than an electric dryer. If your home does not already have gas, that will require the gas company to pipe gas into your home, as well as having fittings installed to set up your dryer. Likewise, switching from gas to electric would mean a dryer that costs less but requires a 220v outlet, which requires a dedicated circuit. This means around $400 of work by an electrician. So, the simplest answer is, whatever energy source you already have for a dryer is the energy source you should use.

How do you convert from electric clothes dryer to gas clothes dryer?

The only practical way to do that would be to sell the electric clothes dryer and use the proceeds toward purchase of a gas dryer. Even if it was possible to convert the dryer the cost would be prohibitive versus a new dryer. If you mean converting the building, then you would need to have natural gas plumbing installed, and you would need an outlet that matches the voltage of the new dryer.

How do I convert a 2 wire 1 ground 220-240 Volt dryer outlet to a 120 Volt 15amp outlet hooked to a double 30amp breaker along with lowering the outlet in the wall to accommodate a gas dryer?

Asking this type of question usually means you aren't ready to do this yourself. If you get any detailed "how to do it" answer here, you might attempt to do something you shouldn't be doing, and that may cost someone a shock, a home fire, or their life. You can't, you have to run a new line from the panel box or fuse box. The dryer line is 10/3 240 Volt but the line that you need for the gas dryer is only 12/2 120 volt. As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed. If you do this work yourself, always turn off the powerat the breaker box/fuse panel BEFORE you attempt to do any work ANDalways use an electrician's test meter having metal-tipped probes(not a simple proximity voltage indicator)to insure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOBSAFELY AND COMPETENTLYREFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.
