Not very well, actually.A NDB is a radio transmitter (running in the band below AM broadcast) that sends its callsign in Morse Code. Its location and frequency are marked on nav charts. You plug the frequency into your plane's Automatic Direction Finder, and the needle on the ADF gauge points at the heading to the ADF. There are two ways to use this thing. If you want to fly from NDB to NDB you tune your ADF to the frequency of the NDB you want to go to, turn the plane till the needle is pointing straight ahead, and fly. If you want to navigate using multiple NDBs you get your navigator to tune in several NDBs, get the azimuths from them, and backplot from the NDB to your plane. Airplanes don't have this tech anymore; you can install VHF Omnidirectional Range or GPS navigation equipment in your plane for about the same price and the same panel space as installing ADF, and they work better.

There are a number of acronyms for the term NDB. Some of the most common acronyms include 'Non Directional Beacon', 'National Dental Boards' and 'Nuclear Depth Bomb'.
The directional part. Directional relays will operate for events "in front of" them, but will not operate for events "behind" them. Typically directional relays are used in non radial situations such as on the bulk electric system. Non-directional overcurrents are commonly used on radial lines.
NDB (Non-Directional Beacon) and DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) are both navigational aids used in aviation. An NDB provides a radio signal that pilots can use to determine their bearing to the station, but it does not provide distance information. In contrast, DME measures the distance from the aircraft to the ground station by timing the transmission of signals. Directional stimuli are environmental stimuli, particularly light and sound, that the direction of which it comes and the direction of the response to the stimulus are of upmost importance. Non-directional stimuli are those where receptors do not detect the direction from which they come. Chemical stimuli are usually not directional.
Whether your alternate hypothesis is directional (one-sided) or non-directional (two-sided) is largely up to you but must be determined before you conduct your experiment, not after. It's not defined by the outcome.
