At least four hours every day. Be certain to clean out the filter when it becomes necessary, too.

Another Answer: It is better to run for shorter times, several times a day. Reason one is that this will allow any leaves to be skimmed off before they sink to the bottom. Reason two is that more algae is killed with less chlorine if the water is constantly agitated. I personally run my pump 4 times a day for about 2-4 hours, but in your case it may be more or less depending on the size of your pool and the volume of water being pumped. You can experiment by reducing the times untill the water looses its sparkle then increase the time slightly to keep it sparkling.

It depends on the size of the pool and the prevailing conditions. Run it for 3 hours morning and 3 hour's afternoon for starters and see how the water is. if it stays clean and clear reduce it until you have found the balance.

pool filters should run during day time hours when pool is in use, i run mine on all day then shut it off before bed, then back on in morning. Algea tends to grow when there is low chlorine levels and poor circulation of water so dont leave pool off more than12 hours, if water starts to look cloudy use a clorine shock and leave pool running for 24 hours or until clear

Actually, since filtration starts with dissolved dirt particles binding with free chlorine and then floating to the surface where it can be skimmed off, the best time to filter your pool is when its NOT in use. When it is in use, the skimmer flap bounces a lot - decreasing its efficiency. But, if you use a solar blanket at night, this will impede the free movement of the surface layer of the water toward your skimmer. So the best time to filter is with the solar cover off and while the pool is not in use.

One consideration (for those who have it) is offpeak electricity which is charged at a lower rate (typically at night). Electric pumps are power hogs, and you can save money plugging your pool into a timer (check amperage rating of the timer or risk a fire!!!) that keeps your pool running during these offpeak hours only. You also do your part to make your power grid more efficient and keep costs down for us all.

Run your filter for as long as you need to "turn over" the water in your pool. You can calculate this by finding your pump GPM rating and divide the number of total gallons in your pool by this number. Divide the result by 60 to get the number of hours minimum to run your pool daily. Keeping chlorine and pH levels normal is a must for your filter to work well.

The cleaning schedules varies from filter to filter, but a general guideline on any swimming pool filter is to take a reading when the filter is clean, then clean the pool filter when the pressure rises about 10 psi.

Why is there sediment in your well water?

There is often sediment because it comes out of the ground and up a steel pipe. Fit a sediment filter at the pressure tank, it's very easy. There is often sediment because it comes out of the ground and up a steel pipe. Fit a sediment filter at the pressure tank, it's very easy.

How do you calculate the size of swimming pool filter needed?

Bigger is better. The bigger it is the less often it has to be cleaned, and the more effective it will clean. Three key points of water quality "filtration, circulation and sanatization.
