Two hurricanes made landfall in Canada in 2010. First was Hurricane Earl, which hit Nova Scotia on September 4. Second was Hurricane Igor, which hit Newfoundland on September 21.
The waters off Canada are generally too cold for the formation of hurricanes. Hurricanes that strike the east coast of the United states often lead to serious storms in eastern Canada but there have been instances where Canada was hit by a hurricane. Most recently, hurricane Juan which caused extensive damage and 8 fatalities in Nova Scotia. Hurricane Hazel (1956) retained hurricane strength as it passed over southern Ontario, causing extensive damage and 81 fatalities.
Hurricanes hit often
Hurricane Isaac has dissipated by now. Hurricanes generally do do not hit Canada, and if the to it's going to be in the eastern portions such as Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Hurricane Isaac hit the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricanes don't last long over land. While such storms sometimes make it into southern Canada, by the time they get there they have lost all traits that would identify them as hurricanes, and will be little different from ordinary storm systems.
The portion along the Gulf of Mexico feels the greatest impact from hurricanes, as hurricanes quickly lose strength after they hit land.
Hurricanes need warm ocean water to form. The waters near Canada are to cold for hurricanes to form.
The climate is tropical. However, it is often hit by hurricanes owing to exposed location.
