The waters off Canada are generally too cold for the formation of hurricanes. Hurricanes that strike the east coast of the United states often lead to serious storms in eastern Canada but there have been instances where Canada was hit by a hurricane. Most recently, hurricane Juan which caused extensive damage and 8 fatalities in Nova Scotia. Hurricane Hazel (1956) retained hurricane strength as it passed over southern Ontario, causing extensive damage and 81 fatalities.

Tornadoes do occur in Canada, most frequently in Manitoba.

Hurricanes can strike Canada, this is unusual though because the cold water weakens them.

Other storms are still capable of producing hurricane force winds though.

Hurricanes have occasionally hit Canada, but it is a rare event. This is because hurricanes need warm ocean water, and not many are able to retain hurricane status in the colder waters near Canada.
