Well........... It dedends?
me personally? Five times a year
check your fluids my camaros light was on and i ignored it i blew my engine
Could be low fluids or a electronic component in engine...
Cold weather can make your check engine light come on for various reasons. It could be caused by low fluids or a sensor.
Check your owner's Manual located in the glove box. Usually means the engine needs a routine check of fluids or just an oil change.
It could if you are running it in very cold or very hot weather. In the winter, the engine has to warm the fluids and since the fluids are cold and thick, it takes more engine force to move them. In the summer, they are too thin so the engine isn't fighting the viscosity of the fluids. It's always best to make sure antifreeze/coolant is full. Always check them when the engine is hot. NEVER check Radiator HOT!
You might want to check all of your fluids i.e., brake fluid, steering fluid etc. Do you have enough oil in the engine? Check all the fluids and make sure they are at the level they are suppose to be.
Most metric motorcycles do not have separate engine and transmission fluids. The engine oil also lubricates the transmission. When in doubt, check the owner's manual.
To check the fluids in a 2003 Mercedes C240, start by ensuring the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is off. For the engine oil, remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it, and then check the level. For coolant, inspect the reservoir located near the radiator; it should be between the minimum and maximum marks. Other fluids, like transmission and brake fluid, can be checked similarly by locating their respective reservoirs and assessing the levels.
The check engine light does not indicate your fluids are low. There are separate lights for that. The MIL (or check engine light) indicates there is a problem with your fuel injection, ignition, emmisions or engine and a DTC (or diagnostic trouble code) has been stored. Your best bet is to pull the codes to find out why the light is on. This is the only way you will correctly identify and fix the problem.
Got a leak somewhere alos check that your radiator cap rubber/seal is not worn out, fluids can be lost from their too.
Yes, this is often the reason why the check engine light comes on.
