There is not an exact answer in miles to this question - much depends on your driving style and where you drive (i.e. hills, flat, freeway, city streets). You will find an estimated number in the owners manual of your car but at best it is an estimate. Check or have your brakes checked at about 10,000 miles. Your mechanic should be able to give you an idea as to the percentage left on the pads. From that estimate you will be able to make a calculated guess when to have them checked again. When having tires replaced is always a good time to have a look at the pads. Front pads generally are changed three or four times to once on the rear. Do not let them go metal to metal - that makes a brake job much more expensive. Generally speaking front brakes should be good for between 10 and 25 thousand miles but again much depends on you!
