This is a good Question, .And yes they can if she says that she is going to harm her self or others, Or if she has taken drugs that was a result of drug overdose . In many state they go by a 302 Code - It's a hold for 72 hours. That's it. Unless the next to kin comes in , Then they can stay longer. But the 302 they have to stay. Court Order.

Thanks DR.P

Maybe. If you can afford the top of the line mental help facilities they can admit you and get you into a series of programs and anti psychotic drug trials until you find something that works but can take months of work. This is a good thing. If you cannot afford that you can go to a psychiatrist who will push drugs on you and send you home to figure out if they work, or not, on your own. This is a bad thing. You can also talk to a councilor and ask for their advice and help.

Now this is very important so please read and please, protect yourself. :) Never, EVER consider, putting yourself in a mental hospital. Please go to your close family members or close friends and talk to them about whatever is bothering you. Also, please go to the places that make you feel happy and at peace. It could be your hometown, or your church, or a favorite restaurant, or a sporting event, or wherever. But just spend time with the people you know who you feel best with, and go to the places that make you feel happy and at peace.

Understand that the psychiatric industry is something that never should have been invented. Now, in 2015, the psychiatric industry is an epidemic -- and should be avoided at all costs! Everyone should be smart enough to realise, a mental hospital helps no one. It is an ugly way to live and destroys the rest of the persons life. When a person leaves a mental hospital -- the person is not better! Please be aware, once a person leaves the mental hospital, they are required by the court to attend what is known as a "Day Treatment Program" which they must attend almost every day of the week. It is absolutely horrible and ugly. The person winds up returning to the mental hospital time and time again, year after year, for the rest of his/her life. It is ugly and dangerous in mental hospitals and post-Day treatment programs. Be aware that in mental hospitals, there are security people everywhere, the orderlies and psychiatric nurses are cruel and without any compassion, and the patients are filled with rage and use profane and vulgar language. This is an ugly world, please avoid it. Run away from it. Spend time with the people who make you feel best, and spend time in the places that make you feel great. You deserve it. You do not deserve, and no one deserves, to have a life spent anywhere near the psychiatric industry. ( I have never spent time in these ugly places but I have met several men who have, in addition to some of their family members. And this is the information I have learned.)

well, it really depends on how bad it is, if its affecting your day to day things, and if its affecting the people around you. if you (or whoever you are talking about) are having bad enough anxiety that it affects your day to day life, I would talk to a psychologist and see how they can hep you with it

If she is a minor, you simply take her to the hospital and have her admitted. If she is an adult, she'll need to consent. There is a provision where someone can be committed to a mental facility against their will if he/she is a danger to themselves or others. If you believe this is the case, contact the facility to look into the necessary steps.
