The answer above must be old because according to the message boards and my own experience it takes about 2 years in most cases with out any problems. The new increase in funding may speed things up for new applicants but I wouldn't count on it. Because you will be at the bottom of a 16 thousand applicant list for one thousand jobs. It is still worth it though.
The US Customs and Border Patrol ar always hiring agents/officers. You can apply and if qualified to join you will be sent to training school and probably be assigned in no more than 6-9 months.

One basic qualification that border patrol agents is they must be a United States citizen. A few other qualifications are they must have a valid drivers license, they have to be younger than 40 at the time of selection, and they must take and pass the CP Border Patrol entrance examination.
