You'd need to discuss the wants and needs of the pet and, in the case of dogs and cats, whether they have aggressive tendencies and what sparks them. You'd also need to get clear information on your calling a vet in the event of an emergency. The owner might say, oh, call me first, but if the emergency is life-threatening you'll have to take the initiative. Make sure you have information from the owner on care and feeding, and also the name and number of the vet or animal clinic. Your local area will have legislation covering children working, but it's probably not likely that watching pets now and then will matter much to anybody. Approached with care and commonsense you'll find this kind of activity rewarding and informative, and pet owners will recommend you to others if they're happy with you. To seek this sort of work you must clearly like animals and enjoy their company; I'm sure you'll do well.
