For this question, many people have a different opinion. Most veterinarians will say that Dog's should be spayed before their first season, but once they have reached physical maturity (about 6 months old). I had my female Longhaired Miniature Dachshund spayed at 8 months old, but consult your vet. Do not take her to be spayed before she is 6 months old as this can cause urinary incontinence. Any age after this is fine.

∙ 12y agoWhile it is possible to do the surgery as young as 8 weeks, it is generally best to wait until she is six months old and at least one month before or after a heat cycle. Spaying during or close to a heat cycle may result in a greater bleeding risk. Dogs spayed before they are six months old are at a higher risk of incontenance. Dogs spayed after one year, or not spayed at all, are at a higher risk of cancer. Your vet can advise you further, but generally it is best to spay her between six and 12 months. Be aware that she may come into season as young as five months, or not at all until after 12 months. As her owner, you are responsible for monitoring her and making sure she has no opportunity to become pregnant until you can get her spayed.
