Dachshunds

Bred to hunt badgers, Dachshunds have distinctive long bodies and dwarf legs which helps them to reach the badger burrows through tunnels easier. Dachshunds come in two sizes, the standard and the miniature. These dogs also have three different coat types, smooth, longhaired and wirehaired.

What are the results of Blue heeler and dachshund mix?

I have one! He has the long, short body of a daschund while being a little bigger. He's about 26 pounds. I'm not sure whether the mother or the father was a heeler or a daschund. He has a heeler face with a daschund nose and pointy ears. The bark is really high and piercing like the heeler. Heelers are also referred to as Australian cattle dogs.

How many pups can a dachshund have?

Count the dog's nipples, and subtract 1. This is the rule of thumb for all mammals.

Actually my dachshund just had puppies and she had eight nipples and had eight puppies, so I don't think that is always the rule of thumb.

How do you calm a frantic dachshund?

They are naturally hyper, but here are a few things you can try: close the blinds and doors to reduce outside stimuli, put on some soothing music, such as New Age or Classical, hold the dog and speak in soft soothing tones to him. Sometimes distractions, such as offering a favorite treat or toy will work as well. If the cause of the frantic behavior is the leaving of the dachshund's "favorite human," then, I'm afraid you are just out of luck until that person returns. Dachshunds are known for attaching themselves to one particular person and obsessing about them!

Why do dachshunds dig?

Dachshunds were bred to hunt badgers. The long, narrow body, small head, pointed nose and strong digging instinct were designed for the animal to dig into the burrows of small animals. Even though they are almost entirely house pets today, they have retained their traditional attributes.

What is calcium build-up on the spine and how can it be cured?

Calcium buildup is called "Arthritis" and cannot be cured... The worst arthritis involving the spine is when there is enough buildup to cause "impingement" of the spinal cord, otherwise known as "stenosis"... Usually noted in older individuals, it can be as a result of trauma [fall, herniated disc, scoliosis, etc]. The "stenosis" occurs in about 80% of older folks and rarely goes on to cause medical problems such as paraplegia (weakness & loss of sensation) [lower extremities affected] or all extremities, called quadriplegia... resulting in partial to complete paralysis/loss of sensation... Understand this... Arthritis is a normal action by the body to buildup or strengthen a bony joint to prevent wear & tear of that joint... The body is unable to manufacture new cartilage, so what ends up happening is regular bone builds up, narrowing the joint space [in general terms], and spinal cord compression when in the spine.. If there IS impingement of the spinal cord as diagnosed by MRI, additional tests are required: CT milligram to get a better "feel" for how much spinal cord impingement [compression] of the cord, and Electromylography [EMG's and Nerve conduction studies] of the extremities to see if there is actual cord damage... If so, surgery is absolutely necessary to "free up" the bony entrapment of the nerves affected to prevent further nerve damage... Remember... IF there is evidence of increasing weakness,[neck: dropping things, loss of sensitivity in your hands, muscle waisting of the arm(s) & hands... lower spine: increasing weakness of the legs, loss of feeling, muscle waisting on buttocks/legs/feet, etc] then you need to see a neurosurgeon or orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in spinal surgery ASAP... Good answer above, the calcium deposits that occur on the spine are a natural part of the aging process, they are also called bone-spurs. Most people in their 40's and 50's will have some bone-spurs if an X-Ray is taken, most are symptom free, but as noted above can cause nerve root compression or spinal cord compression. Much back pain in those with arthritis is due to degenerative arthritis of the articular facets (small joints on either side of the spine that allow vertebrae to move against the vertebrae above and below). No cure for bone-spurs, but must be treated surgically if causing compression or impingement on surrounding tissues.

What would the discharge look like if you had a miscarriage?

It depends how far along you are, but in very early pregnancy, it would be just like a period only it could be thicker or have chunks in it, and you usually would have more cramping.

What are dachshund sausages?

Either you are talking about the meat of a dachshund dog being made into a sausage, or a small dog with a long back which is called a sausage dog or a dachshund. If you are talking about my second answer, then I can definitely tell you there is no such thing as a dachshund sausage. It is either a sausage dog or a dachshund!

Alternate answer:I'm no expert on either dachshunds or sausages, but I can tell you that my dachshund generally prefers sausages made from finely ground meat to coarsely ground, pressed to ground, and the more fat content the better. Also, sausages are tastier if sliced than whole, but more fun when whole. Hot (pepper hot) sausages are less preferred than other sausages. Sausages made from more than one kind of meat (such as Italian sausages) are better than sausages (like a salami or a k-nockwurst) made from one kind of meat. Any sausage that is put into a soup (I know, it sounds weird) automatically tastes twice as good to her. After eating 10% of her body weight in sausage, sausages are no longer food, they're toys, unless she gets tired. If my dachshund is tired, the sausage becomes a special treasure that she must guard (remember, dachshunds are a subspecies of dragon.) Do not try to take a sausage treasure away from a sleeping dachshund (unless he/she is your dachshund and knows your judgement is best) because these are fearsome beasts. They can growl, snarl, bark, and ram (a nose-ram to the eyeball hurts) without even waking up. Once roused, watch out!

Can cinnamon hurt dachshunds?

Cinnamon is good for dogs in small amounts... it actually helps with indigestion or an upset stomach. I feed it to my Dachshunds sparingly in some yogurt and they gobble it up! Not all chocolate is poisonous either, dark chocolate is what you want to watch out for the others it takes fairly large amounts to hurt any sized dog and white chocolate dogs can eat all day, it has no real chocolate in it.

Rescue one. They are cheaper and are the sweetest little things. They are also pure breeds.

Added answer:

This is another answer... here in Philippines Maybe it costs only 2,000 up to 3,000 pesos!

Another answer;

We unexpectedly fell in love with a miniature long haired dachshund pup at our local pet shop and we've had her for three years. Dachshunds are a handful and you have to be careful about what you let them do considering how easily they can get back problems - more so than other breeds. Our pup cost $1,000 (USD) and honestly you should either find a reputable breeder or go to a shelter because pet stores for lack of a better word suck. We would have never gotten Penny if we had been able to actually put her back in the cage. Good luck, I hope you find the perfect pup!

Yet Another Answer:

My family adopted two mini dachshunds 3 years ago for $200 from a local no-kill rescue. We love them so so so much! I definitely recommend buying from a rescue. Not only are they cheaper, but they also tend to be better behaved. I don't know why, it just is :) Try talking to some of your friends who have dogs and ask them where they got them, or go to Pet Smart and ask when they have their rescues over.

Ciao!

How dangerous is it for a seven year old to be a lacrosse goalie?

Playing the goalie position for any sport can be a danger. However, in a seven year old league, the likeliness of a child getting hurt is moderate. Most kids, if they can get the ball to the goal at this age, will probably take a more "wild" shot and not really care how the ball enters the goal, as long as it does. Whenever you play goalie in a sport, there is always the possibility of getting hit. However a seven year old probably couldn't really cause any damage due to their newness to the game and the undeveloped shooting skills they would have.

It depends... if the seven year old is playing in a seven year old league, then probably not, although if they get hit by the ball, it will probably really hurt them. If the seven year old is playing with older kids, then he/she will probably end up getting hurt though, unless the person has good accuracy and can avoid the goalie.
