Six months is the typical age that vets neuter (spay is typically the term used) puppies, however there is early age spay/neutering that can be done from seven to sixteen weeks of age. This is still somewhat controversial in the animal communitiy, so ask your vet what age they are willing to spay your dog.
8-9 months is probably the ealiest i would do it, because she is at least close to being her full grown size (depending on the breed).
Puppies should be at least 12 weeks old before they are neutered.

How great a pet a puppy will grow up to be isn't based on it's gender, it's based on how well you train and socialize it. Unless you plan on participating in dog shows, your puppy should be spayed or neutered before it's 6 months old. Female dogs are healthier and live longer if spayed before the onset of their first heat cycle. Male dogs are less likely to want to roam or fight with other dogs if neutered.
A month old puppy is not weined yet. He still needs his mothers milk.
Your nine month old puppy was weaned too early. Your puppy will out grow this in time.
This is easy. You need to look for its testicles. If it has them it is not neutered. If it does not it is neutered.
I don't own a 4 month old puppy. Perhaps you have mistaken me for someone else?

because they have to be neutered or spayed and ready to come home to you.
You can do it at any time, but breeding as a puppy is dangerous and the mother or litter may get sick. It's best to do it when your puppy is a few years old, and if you don't want your dog to reproduce, you may get her spayed. Or, if it's a boy, neutered.

A dog can be neutered any time after eight weeks of age.
Dogs mature sexually sometime between 6 months of age, to 8 months of age. It's 100% possible that a 6 month old puppy could impregnate a female dog of any age. The 6 month old puppy needs to be neutered, to prevent a lifetime of "accidents" and unwanted/unplanned litters.
An 8-month-old male puppy is the equivalent of a teenaged boy. He has recently become sexually mature, and his body is very sensitive to physical contact. When you stroke him, he feels pleasure, which can translate into sexual arousal. This is true whether he is intact or neutered. In addition, male dogs in general achieve erection very easily because of the structure of the canine penis. Note: If your puppy is still intact, you may wish to consider having him neutered, unless he is a champion show dog and you want to breed him.
A male puppy can be neutered (castrated) anytime before 6 or 7 months of age, but you can do it at anytime during a dog's life. The earlier it's done the better though, as neutering can help prevent a male dog from "marking", as well as stopping other undesirable habits (including aggression issues) from developing. anywhere around 7-9 months of age for a puppy
