Not reccommended to walk near other dogs until the puppy as received all of its vaccines.

"You can take a puppy as early as 8 weeks old on a walk- but if you do, make the walks short. Puppies that young need a ton of sleep and don't spend a lot of time doing much else besides the obvious of eating, sleeping, and going potty. As the puppy gets older, add more time onto the walk."

"Also you have to make him used to the collar, so don't force it, carry its toys or some dog cookies, so he would be more interested. For the first days, maybe it will sit down and refuse to walk, so try to make him notice who's leading.

You have to be very patience. But they are very cute, also don't forget to pet him and give him a cookie when it pees and poo. So it would be very pleased to pee and poo outside the house and also to take a walk"

The rule of thumb is to walk a dog for around 5 minutes per 4 weeks of its age. So a 12-week-old pup may only need around 15 minutes of exercise, while a 20-week-old may be happier with 25 or so minutes of exercise. However, these are only rough guidelines, as it also depends on how much playing your puppy gets at home. If you are playing with your puppy a lot, then you may need less exercise. And bear in mind that if your puppy seems to be lagging behind you and you need to drag it on its lead, then it is getting too tired. Too much walking can damage its bone growth - so be careful!

You can take a puppy out to a walk as little as 8 weeks old. It also has to be old enough to be away from its mother and only take it on short walks.

Can i take my 4 month old Labrador puppy on an 8 mile walk?

Sorry but you can't take her/him on a 8 mile walk. They are not strong and able to walk that distance. This is not stopping you in the future when your puppy is older. I would recommend around 1 years and over.

Should my 6 week old puppy be walking on his legs?

Yes! Puppies should have started at least trying to walk at just a few weeks. If a 6 week old puppy is not walking, take him/her to the vet immediately.

If you live in the city at what age should you first walk your puppy?

It is best to wait until your puppy has had all of its shots. Typically 3 sets of puppy shots will do the trick. Your puppy's shots need to include Parvo. Parvo is deadly and fairly common (depending on your area). At 4 months old they are vaccinated against Rabies (some people walk their dogs before this shot). After your puppy is fully vaccinated start your walks. If you got your dog from a breeder, they can help you with common practices in puppy care and breed specific questions. Your vet is always a good resource and should be happy to answer any question you may have.
