I can give you some general info from the 2008 standard catalog of firearms:
The barrel on earlier guns is marked "Marlin Firearms Co. New Haven, Ct,U.S.A./ patented Oct. 11.1887.April 2.1889.Aug.1.1893." In 1993 the markings were changed to "The Marlin Firearms Corporation/ New Haven, Conn.U.S.A.Patented." The rifles manufactured after 1904 are marked"Special Smokeless Steel" on the left side of the barrel. There were approximately 900,000 manufactured between 1893 and 1935.
Hope that helps.
