The Model 81 Remingtons were produced until 1950 and by going to the Remington Website there is no means of identifying (solely by serial number) when your rifle was produced, but... The following link uses two proof marks on the left side of the barrel (just forward of the receiver) that are date stamps of the barrel manufacture. If your barrel has not been replaced, this should give you an idea of the month and year it was produced.
http://www.remingtonsociety.com/questions/BLACKPOWDERX.htm I used this to date my Model 81, with a 21XXX SerNo, it was apparently produced in Jun 1942, with a PL code.
Remington Model 550-1 does not have serial numbers.
The serial number by itself doesn't identify a specific model.
an 03-A3 can bring $5,000+ if it is correct and mint. Be careful about the description of "MINT". A little wear can decrease the price dramatically.
You'll have to furnish a manufacturer and model number before the serial number means anything.
