Goslings are hatched in the spring and immediately take to water where they are safer.

Their parents moult, taking three to four weeks to lose old feathers and grow new ones. After moulting, the parents can teach the goslings to fly, estimating that the baby animals are perhaps 60 days old or older when they fly successfully.
