A rooster typically will start showing sexual maturity at about 5 months. Prior to that the cockerel will play at being a fully active male but will be awkward and ineffective. The hens will not put up with this and shrug off his attempts to mount them. Somewhere within that 5 to 7 month period, he will learn and start to mate with his hens.
If the rooster was around a week before the eggs were laid then, yes, they can be hatched. But if there has never been a rooster around then, sorry, there can't be any chicks. You can buy already fertilized eggs for chickens to sit on and hatch even if you don't have a rooster.
It is not up to the hen whether the eggs are fertilized. That is a rooster function. No rooster, not fertilization. If you have a rooster with access to the hens, as soon as they are able to lay, chances are he has done his job and they are fertilized.
Yes, if they have a nest, they will lay eggs (as long as they aren't too young or old) ...if there's a rooster, he can fertilize those eggs and that is where little chicks come from...if there isn't a rooster around, that's where your omelets come from ;p
Most hens will begin laying eggs at 6 months of age. If you want to hatch these eggs the hen must have been with a rooster. There is no danger in breeding a hen too early unless the rooster is overly agressive.
They either -Arent old enoughAre going through moltare actually a rooster.
The very young, the very old and of course the male chicken which is called a rooster.
Proboly because he is stil TOO YOUNG! But otherwize you should have gotten Fertilized eggs.
Many people say that a rooster if fertile up until his death. The only thing you can do is periodically test the eggs laid by the hens he has mounted to check for fertility.
Yes Pullets will start laying at about 5 months old. A rooster does not need to be involved at all. Eggs are produced without the help of a rooster. All the rooster does is fertilize the eggs and guard the flock. The chickens who produce the eggs you buy at the big supermarkets and grocery stores with live out their productive years without ever seeing a rooster. Yes Hens will lay without mating with a cockrel they will start to lay at about 5 months old. If a hen did lay after mating that egg may be fertile as that is all the Cockrel does. I just want to say Heyyy to my friends Suzie,Anna and Annaliese xxxxxx
Hens will start allowing the rooster to mount at about 6 months old or so. Some pullets do not accept the roosters advances until later but eventually she will. Once your hen starts to lay eggs the rooster will be interested.
At his funeral, or when he can't chase and catch the hens.
A rooster is never too old to crow, he just might not do it as often.
