A male Shih Tzu should be at least 2 years old before he is bred. This is to ensure he fills out into appropriate breed specifications and has finished growing and developing his muscles.
As a side note, unless you are breeding for working or show dogs, in general there is no need to breed your privately owned dog. There are thousands of puppies that are abandoned and euthanized every year in the United States because there are no homes for them.
The Chinese
In ancient China, the shih tzu was bred to resemble the lion dog in the traditional oriental art. The name literally means "Lion Dog"
Miniature PURE BRED Shih Tzu Puppies - around $1,000 - $2,000 range Not sure how much the adult mini shih tzus are. They get don't get as big as shih tzus that are not miniature.
It totally depends! It depends on what your talking about. It varies for color, size, gender, and if they were bred as champions. The average cost for a Shih Tzu can be anywhere from $300-$900. And with Shih Tzu's you want to go on the higher end. The lower end may not be pure bred or completely healthy. I hope this helped you! If you google Shih Tzus it will give you the info you want when looking for one and important things you need to know. :) Good luck!!
The small, hairy, short-legged dog is the Shih Tzu (originally from China).
the shih tzu breed is not a predator, it was bred to be a house pet, although very playful he loves to sleep
It was'nt bred for any job it was a Tibetan temple Dog.
I don't know who exactly, but the shih tzus were bred for Chinese royalty, even though they're German.
None, a Shih-tzu is a Shih-tzu. But it can be mixed with other dogs.
Just like your question, both of the male shih tzus are the fathers.
Hi, to tell if a shih tzu is purebred is by looking at it's face, legs, body, and head. The head is round. The face is flat. You can tell if it's flat by how the nose is flat. Where the mouth is, it should look like there is circle around it. You check the legs and see if it is short. If it is, good. Now you look at the body. It must be roundish. It must look chubby. The last thing to look at is the tail. If the tail is pretty long like 8 inches and is not curled up, that's a mixed shih tzu with another dog probably with a Japanese chin. The tail must be kind of short and curled up. If your shih tzu has all of these features, your shih tzu is pure bred.
I have a beautiful black & white shih tsu that is 2 years old. No skin problems, very spunky, very healthy and am looking for a male to breed her with. I live in Charlotte, NC.
