Herod had all the children of the age of 2 years old and under in Bethlehem killed, in an effort to kill Jesus. So Jesus must have been around 2 years old at the time. Matthew 2:7, 16 7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. 16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

The Bible doesn't say how old Jesus was at the time the wise men visited Him; however, there are clues which point us to an answer.

First, Matthew 2:1 notes that "after Jesus was born in Bethlehem." So the wise men were not present at or immediately after His birth.

Second, Matthew 2:11 says that the magi visited Jesus in a "house."

Third, Matthew 2:11 adds that "they saw the young Child with Mary His mother." The word for "child" indicates that He was a toddler. The same Greek word "Child" is used in verses 13 and 14.

Fourth, at the report of the wise men, King Herod ordered that all the boy babies age "two and under according to the time which he had determined from the wise men" (Matthew 2:16).

From this evidence we can conjecture that the wise men visited Jesus when He was a year or two old.

Some scholors say he was just born, some say within 40 days, others say about 2-3 years The Bible says at Matthew 2:7-11: "Then Herod secretly summoned the astrologers and carefully ascertained from them the time of the star's appearing;and, when sending them to Beth′le·hem, he said: "Go make a careful search for the young child, and when YOU have found it report back to me, that I too may go and do it obeisance." When they had heard the king, they went their way; and, look! the star they had seen [when they were] in the east went ahead of them, until it came to a stop above where the young child was. On seeing the star they rejoiced very much indeed. And when they went into the house they saw the young child with Mary its mother, and, falling down, they did obeisance to it. They also opened their treasures and presented it with gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh." So, Jesus was living in a house, in Bethlehem, as a "young child" when the "three Magi, Kings or Astrologers", brought Jesus gifts. Read it in your Bible.

The usual wording of Matthew 2:1, "Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem ..." suggests that the magi, or wise men, arrived in Jerusalem at the time of his birth or soon afterwards. This can not be definite, because later, the Gospel tells us that King Herod ordered all the boys under tow years old to be killed. On all this evidence, the wise men probably arrived in Bethlehem soon after the birth of Jesus, but certainly well within two years of the birth.

However, the author of Luke seems to have been unaware of this important event, and it is not mentioned anywhere outside Matthew's Gospel. John Shelby Spong (Born of a Woman: A Bishop Rethinks the Birth of Jesus) says that among people he knows in New Testament circles, the universal assumption is that the wise men were not actual people. Historically, we could say that the wise men did not really come to see Jesus.

A:The wise men, or magi, form part of Matthew's nativity account. We have two clues that tell us how old Jesus was when the wise men arrived.

Matthew 2:1 says: "Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem," a strong clue that the wise men arrived very soon after his birth.

On the other hand, Matthew 2:16 say: "Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men." Here, Herod was not certain how long ago Jesus had been born, but believed it must have been less than two years previously.

It has been noted that Matthew's nativity account is irreconcilable with Luke's nativity account and some conservative Christians attempt to harmonise the two by saying that Luke's story occurred first and that Matthew's account of the flight to Egypt occurred later, up to two years after the birth of Jesus. This is not a credible solution to the discrepancies between the two accounts, since Luke makes it clear that the young family left Bethlehem forever just 40 days after the birth. To resolve this, the magi must have arrived before Jesus was forty days old rather than when he was much older. Even then, we would have to choose between the young family travelling from Bethlehem to Jerusalem and then Nazareth, or fleeing to Egypt and remaining there for some years.

Perhaps the real answer is provided by Bishop Spong. In Born of a Woman: A Bishop Rethinks the Birth of Jesus, he says neither birth story contains any historical truth. Moreover, he says that among people he knows in New Testament circles, the universal assumption is that the magi were not actual people, and that Matthew was simply writing Christian midrash. This tells us that the magi did not really go and worship the baby Jesus.

Answer:

The Scripture is not specific as to Jesus' age when visited by the Wise Men from the East came but we can get a range of 6mos to 2 years old by comparing the harmony of the accounts between Luke and Matthew.

Luke speaks of Jesus as a babe and tells the story of the Shepherds' visit of him in a manger. Then he speaks of his Circumcision as 8 days old followed by Mary's purification being over (40 days - see Leviticus 12:6) and Joseph and Mary's offering the sacrifice of the POOR of 2 pigeons or turtle doves - quite strange if the Magi already visited and gave the expensive gifts which included gold. Jesus is at least 2 mos. old by this account. It then skips over the timeframe of Matthew, with Luke telling of their leaving to Nazareth and skips again to Jesus being 12 years old. But back to Matthew and the Magi now.

Matthew starts in Chapter 2 'Now after Jesus was born...(NKJV) mentioning the wise men from the East coming to Jerusalem. Months seem to have transpired here as verse 11 says Joseph and Mary were living in a HOUSE (holy days over and room now available). In verse 16, Matthew tells of the murdering of the innocent children under 2 years of age - insuring Jesus's age was among them as Jesus is referred to as a CHILD and not a babe or infant (verse 11). A child is a toddler - 6 mos or older.

Matthew tells of the family escaping Herod and going to Egypt until Herod dies which historians say was at the end of 4 BC. Then Matthew picks back up with Jesus going to Nazareth to fulfill prophecy. All quite reconciled and in harmony.

According to Matthew's Gospel, Jesus must have been no older than two years and almost certainly a lot younger.

Matthew 2:1 says that the magi came looking at the time Jesus was actually born: "Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem."

However, because of a conflict with Luke's Gospel, which says that Jesus was taken to Jerusalem and then Nazareth just a few weeks after his birth, some have suggested that Jesus was much older when the magi came. Matthew 2:16 says that when Herod realised that the magi had left without informing him about Jesus, he ordered that all the infant boys under two years old be killed. It can be hard to know just how old an infant is, so Herod must have thought that Jesus would certainly not have been close to two years old. There are many reasons to doubt this story, only one of which is that Luke has Jesus taken safely and peacefully to faraway Nazareth - John Shelby Spong says in Born of a Woman: A Bishop Rethinks the Birth of Jesus, Matthew was clearly writing Christian midrash.

The Bible doesn't say exactly. However, He was no Older than 2 years. The reason we know this, is because that was the approximate age of the boys, that Herod sought to have killed.

Giftfs from three Shepherds to baby Jesus?

The shepherds did not give Jesus gifts. The wise men from the east gave Jesus gifts of gold, frankincence, and myrrh. He was about two years old when they came.

Where did the wise men come to see Jesus?

Bethleham - at their home when Jesus was 2 yrs old.

When did the 3 kings arrive at Bethlehem?

No one knows their names, or if they were kings, or if there were three of them. All the Bible says is that "wise men from the east" came to see Jesus. Also, they came when Jesus was probably about 2 years old, and living in Nazareth. They were not present at the stable in Bethlehem at all.

How old was Jesus when the three wise men visited him Who else visited Jesus alone with the wise men at the home of Mary and Joseph Where is it found in scripture?

Jesus was likely around two years old when the wise men visited him. The only others who visited Jesus along with the wise men at the home of Mary and Joseph were shepherds, as described in the Gospel of Luke 2:8-20.

What do you call he three gifts that they gave to Jesus?

The wise men (Iran? Iraq?) from the east came to worship the Messiah spoken of in the Old Testament as he told Herod the King. They presented precious commodities - gold, frankincence and myrrh in worship. Bob Rifle

According to the bible how many wise men are there?

no one really knows how many wise men there were, most people think there were 3, but the Bible says that "the wise men then brought 3 gifts of frankinsence, gold, and myrr." the Bible says that they brought 3 gifts, so in theory, it makes it sound like there were 3 wise men, but there could have been just 1, mabe 2, mabe 100, no one knows. people also think that the wise men came to visit Jesus on the night that he was born, but this is not true, the Bible says that the wise men came to visit him when he was at least a month old or a year old. and if you dont believe what im saying now, you can just go and read your Bible, cause EVERYBODY knows that the Bible is pure truth. ;)

Who of the three wise men give baby jesus gold?

the three wise menAnswer:None of them.Scripture states that the "wise men" [the exact number of them is undisclosed] came to Jesus' "house" as many as TWO YEARS two years after His birth... not when He was an "infant" in the stable."And when they were come INTO THE HOUSE, they saw the YOUNG CHILD [not infant in the manger] with Mary His mother..." (Matt.2:11).Herod subsequently ordered the murder of: "...all the children that were in Bethlehem [assuming this means 'male' children ?], and in all the coasts thereof, FROM TWO YEARS OLD AND UNDER, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men." (verse 16)The number of wise men isn't mentioned in the Bible. Men have made it into a story of "three wise men," from the number of gifts mentioned [verse 11].There could have been "two" wise men... or "twenty-two"... who knows? And any number of them could have presented multiples of the same gifts. But, however many "wise men" there may have been... none of them appeared to the "infant" Jesus in the manger. They arrived at Jesus' parents' "house" as many as two years later.

Where does the Bible say Jesus was two years old when the wise men visited Him?

A:The Bible does not say that Jesus was two years old when the wise men visited him. Matthew's Gospel does say that after their visit, King Herod sought to have all the baby boys under two years old killed, so as to kill Jesus. This leads to the conclusion that Herod was uncertain how old Jesus was, but that he was confident that Jesus was much younger than two. Because the nativity accounts in Matthew and Lukeare so contradictory, some have sought to harmonise them by saying that the events in Luke occurred at the time of Jesus' birth and the events in Matthew occurred two years later, when Jesus was two. This explanation glosses over differences in the two accounts, but is the reason that some point to Herod's slaughter of children under two years old as meaning that Jesus was just two at the time the wise men arrived.

Were the three shepherds the same as the three wise man?

No - they are completely different people. The "wise men" - actually magi (Zoroastrian priests) - were reported by Matthew, who said that they followed a star and brought expensive gifts and worshipped Jesus. Their search for the new-born King of the Jews resulted in the sudden departure of Joseph, Mary and Jesus to Egypt. The shepherds were reported by Luke, who said they were told of the baby Jesus by a host of angels and came to visit Jesus in a manger. Joseph and Mary then took Jesus to Jerusalem to be circumcised.

Did the magi tell herod where Jesus would be born?

The birth of Jesus was written as prophecy in the Old Testament, including where. They may have been familiar with some of the Jewish beliefs. As part of their repertoire they were skilled in astronomy and followed the star.

Was Jesus in the house when when the wise men came?

No. According to the book of St. Matthew, chapter 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.Matt 2:11 (KJV)As you can see, they came "into the house". The Greek word used for "house" in this passage is one that means residence, household or home. This was clearly not a stable.

What did the 3 wise men do?

The bible doesn't really say that there was 3. But they brought three presents to 2-year-old Jesus. they brought gold, frankincense and myrrh.
