This radio show began in 1948, when Lucy was 37 years old. It was such a hit on radio that CBS wanted to make it a TV show, for which Lucy insisted that Desi Arnaz, her real-life husband, play her TV husband. CBS initially balked -- they didn't think viewers would accept an inter-racial married couple on TV -- but the two had a widely successful vaudeville tour that showed the public was more interested in comedy than "race" matters.
My Favorite Husband was an old radio show. It starred Lucille Ball and Richard Denning and was written by Jesse Oppenheimer. The show ran from 1948-1951. Many of the My Favorite Husband episodes inspired scenes, jokes and even some whole episodes of Lucille Ball's television show I Love Lucy. For example, Liz Teaches the Samba, is a lot like the I Love Lucy episode The Young Fans.
