By all accounts, Michelle Obama was very close with her dad and had great respect for him. He had been ill for a long time, but he never let it stop him, and he always worked hard to support his family. This is something Michelle admired and she has said he was a very inspirational figure for her. Thus, while his death was not entirely unexpected, losing him was very upsetting for the entire Robinson family, including his daughter Michelle who loved him dearly.
