The tradition of Saint Anne being the name of Mary's mother is based largely on the Protoevangelium of Jameswhich is apochryphal and not canonical. Anne is also give a place of honor in Islam.
We do not know how old Anne was when she died but must have been at least in her 60s as she was already advanced in age when Mary was born.
Nobody really knows when Saint Anne died, but it is assumed it was before Jesus was born. She died of old age. She was alive when Mary returned from her visit to her cousin, but is not mentioned again before Mary and Joseph left for Bethlehem.
