They are slaves to the fear of death because they have no hope for the future. To be free from the fear or death you need to believe in Jesus' ransom sacrifice and all that it represents and means for us. If we truly believe in the hope of living forever in a paradise earth after Armageddon has done away with all wickedness on earth then we should have no cause to fear death because we know that Jehovah will resurrect any who perish before the end comes.

It is often said that the worst fear a slave had in the US South was not physical punishment at all. Nor was death the most harmful element. The way to get rid of the fear of death is to realize that death is certain, that nobody can escape death. But death is not in the hands of a virus or an accident. Death is in the hands of the Divine. The moment of birth and the moment of death are both controlled by a power which is greater than a human being. Why do we fear death? Because we don't realize this FEAR is a False Expectation Appearing Real. We fear we will die tomorrow. We may not die tomorrow. We may live another 25 years or even 50 years. But fear makes us believe that we will die. When we trust the Divine, when we surrender our life to the power, then we will eliminate the fear of death. Ultimately, we all have to die. Then why fear death?
Because Hades was the god of the dead and they wanted nothing to do with death.
It would probably mean death for the slave owners and a massive loss of profit.
Who says only kids have fear of death? Have seen plenty of adults who are so scare of death. Even many religious people, who believe in heaven, scare of death. It's not death, but the unknown that scares people.

It depends. Some people think death is salvation. Some people fear death, because they don't know what's next , and that's why they think death is something bad and evil... But no-one can be sure whether death is a gift or not, because there might be something fascinating after death, so we can't really be sure until the day we die.. :)
