Anemia it's self is not rare at all, it is normal in women who are at child bearing age. Sometimes it is from heavy periods, and other times it can be due to the lack of iron or B-12. My self I have been anemic due to heavy period, and it got so bad that I had to have a blood transfusion. The blood they gave me the first time led to antibodies building up in my blood, which led to being diagnosied with Auto Immune Hemoyltic Anemia. My advice is to follow the Dr.'s advice if he wants you to take Iron do becaue the last thing you want to do is have a transfusion, I have had three and I am 28years old. It's hard on your body. Good Luck!
