You cannot always reduce the a compressed file to 50% of the original file. To better explain this, I will explain the basics of how file compression works. A compresser (Ie. WinZip) will looks for longs strings of data that are used often and will replace them with a shorter string of data and make a type of key to use with it. If there is not a lot of long strings of data that are the same, it cannot compress it as much.
You can put the file in a zip archive. In Windows, they are known as "Compressed Folders". Right-click on the file and then "Send To" -> "Compressed (zipped) Folder". This should reduce the file size by about 25%. If you ever need to access the file again, you can extract the file from the zip archive.
I'm not an expert in this field, but I tried my best to find websites that satisfy your inquiries: http://www.csmonitor.com/Business/2012/0103/Six-steps-to-choosing-the-best-refrigerator/Choose-your-size http://housewares.about.com/od/refrigeratorsfreezers/bb/bybrefrigerator.htm http://www.ehow.com/info_8057862_big-refrigerator-should-buy.html

Put in a new hard drive in so the computer has more storage space, this will allow you to put more programs and files onto your computer and still have space.
You upload files to the storage space as a backup copy of content from your hard drive, as addition space to supplement your hard drive or you can make those files available online.
File compression programs make files smaller or combines files into one for smaller storage space. These programs take up less room in your computer memory or allow them to be put on devices such as zip drives.

It is the total amount of storage space consumed on the disk. In web hosting, its the total amount of storage space you are using, HTML files, images, logs, etc.

Managing the free space available on the secondary-storage device.Allocation of storage space when new files have to be written.Scheduling the requests for memory access.
Programs such as WinZip, or 7Zip compress files into a smaller space.
In computing, an archive file is a computer file that is composed of one or more files along with metadata. Archive files are used to collect multiple data files together into a single file for easier portability and storage, or simply to compress files to use less storage space.
There are many ways to increase the storage space on your computer. You can obtain and additional external hard drive that will give you more storage space when attached to your computer. You can also move existing files from your computer's internal hard drive to an external hard drive to clear up space on the internal hard drive. You can also compress files on your computer that you do not use often to free up space on your hard drive.
500 MB (megabytes) is storage space. You are able to write files and save things within this space as long as you don't exceed it.
