Simvastatin is what we in the pharmacy world call an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor. It is in the most prescribed class of drugs in the world.
You should not take simvastatin if you are pregnant, breast feeding, or have liver disease.
The most common side effects are stomach upset, rash, or headache. Statistically, this happens in about 7% of people, but only 2% need to stop the drug because of it (meaning it is not too severe).
When you start simvastatin, your blood will be monitored for the next year or so. This is to watch out for a rare side effect that can effect your liver. However, the incidence of this side effect is very very low (I mean low- like one out of every 10,000 or something), and as long as you get your liver tests done, you do not have to worry.
BOTTOM LINE: Simvastatin is a great drug that has saved many lives. The benefits of it are great, and the risks of a serious side effect are tiny. You probably have a greater chance of having a serious side effect to tylenol. Make sure you get the LFT (liver function test) when you first go on it, just to be safe.
As a pharmacist who gives out prescriptions for simvastatin daily, I highly recommend this drug.
how long can i take simvastatin 40mg-i have be told that after two years the dose has to be reduce ,is this true or can i still take the dose i am taking-
Simvastatin is a used to help to lower cholesterol levels. It does this in two ways:1. by decreasing the amount of cholesterol being produced by the liver1. by decreasing the amount of receptors that "take away" LDLs/"Bad cholesterol"
Simvastatin is used under the trade name Zocor. It is a statin drug used to treat high cholesterol levels. Warfarin is used under the trade name coumadin. It is a blood thinner or anticoagulant used to lessen the clottting.

Yes.
Probably. Simvastatin isn't as potent as rosuvastatin, though, so if you are taking a high dose of rosuvastatin, then you may not be able to get an equivalent dose of simvastatin. Give your doctor a call and ask if he or she will write you a prescription for simvastatin instead.
I would check with a doctor first.
Simvastatin and Tylenol should be fine to take together. You can check with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure that it is a good combination for you.
Lipitor and simvastatin are the drugs used for same things and are often not prescribed together. It might be safe of take them if they are prescribed by your doctor. If you are thinking of taking these drugs without any prescription, then it is a really bad idea. I suggest you to consult a Doctor for your disorder and then take medicines as prescribed by him.
Simvastatin is not an MAOI.
