Go and see your GP or Psychiatrist, you need to discuss with them why you want to change. It may be due to side effects or you feel it is not working, but the bottom line you need to speak to them.

Cymbalta works good for certain people and in others it doesn't. Compared to the other SSRI's antidepressants it is not as good- more side effects and not as efficient IE longer depressive symptoms or anxiety plus more unwanted effects.

Your GP/Specialist should tell you to not take any antidepressant medication for 2 days before you commence your new medication. This is so you don't get a condition called discontinuation syndrome.

Sincerely

There is not an easy way to wean off of cymbalta

the safest way would be to move down from your current dosage in decreases of the smallest possible denomination.

since the capsules come in dosages of 60mg, 30 mg, and 20mg the easiest (and safest) way would be to talk with your doctor about decreasing your dosage. the least your dosage could be decreased would be by 10mg per dosage change using un-broken capsules.

several sites devoted to antidepressants suggest decreasing by a tolerable increment every two weeks. during the period of your step down in dosing it is important that you have someone (not you) around that knows the situation and is able to monitor your behavior and tell you if you are acting strangely...preferably someone who has your best interest in mind. before starting to decrease your dose you must fully understand that you will be reducing the amount of a substance in your body that alters your brain chemistry. your thoughts and behaviors will be affected by this in some way, and other systems may be as well. it is very important that you work closely with a healthcare provider and someone who you trust to avoid long term issues with direct or indirect negative consequences of coming off of cymbalta.

Are their antidepressants that do not cause dizziness?

I've noticed that cymbalta and wellbutrin didn't cause dizziness, but as with every anti-depressant i have ever tried (and i've been on a great many of them) so far, every single one causes moderate to severe dizziness for a few days when you go off of them. In my opinion as far as fewest side effects go, cymbalta is the best one to try.

Do you have to wean off lexapro to start taking Cymbalta?

Cymbalta is an SNRI, meaning it increases both serotonin and norepinephrine, while lexapro is an SSRI, meaning it increases only serotonin. These drugs that inhibit the reuptake of neurotransmitters MUST BE SWITCHED GRADUALLY. If switching from cymbalta to lexapro, the physician should induce a "step-down" therapy on the cymbalta while inducing a "step-up" therapy on lexapro. This ensures a level amount of drug in the blood, and minimizes the chance of recurrence and adverse effects.

Can Cymbalta be taken with lexapro without developing serotonin syndrome?

I wouldn't suggest it at all. Just from personal experience, I developed a moderate case of serotonin syndrome while weening myself off Lexapro to switch to Cymbalta. Had I taken my regular dosage of Lexapro (20mg) with the 20mg of Cymbalta, I probably would have ended up in the ER.
