I find that if you have on a tank top or camisole over some jeans, just throwing a belt over the bottom of the shirt or putting on a cute hat can make the whole outfit more sophisticated and mature looking, while still keeping it casual. If you want a fancy outfit to look more casual, just thrown on a jean jacket or something similar to that to tone the outfit down.

Dressing big and flashy is not always what people find attractive, so don't be afraid to tone things down. But, being to casual can make it look like you don't care how you look, and that's not what you want people to think, so don't be afraid to jazz things up. The kind of things you wear to make yourself look good to other people and yourself also depends on body shape, so if you're more round then curvy, don't try on really tight things to try to look thinner, it's not who you are, it's uncomfortable, and people can easily tell what you're trying to do. Sometimes just adding something personal to an outfit, like a belt in your favorite color, a special design you added on, or just sewing your initials on the front of your pocket can make something look a lot better.
