The most important thing to do is that the person shouldn't make a big deal of a girl being 1 year older than him and should act more confident and mature around her before he asks her out. Once she starts taking the boy seriously, the boy must then only ask the girl out. Usually girls don't see it a big deal if the age difference is 1-2 years. But if it goes like 4-5 well then you got to be real mature to ask her.
