Buddhism believes that everyone has an inate Buddha nature that moves each individual towards enlightenment. As person passes through many cycles of death and rebirth the understanding of what id proper and what is painful grows until the person makes proper decisions. To assist them in this there are guidelines likethe Eightfold Path that a person may or may not follow. Unlike many religions such as Christianity where a deity directs the person to be good with countless rules, Buddhism holds each person responsible for his own improvement.

∙ 11y agoWell, Buddhism is founded on moral principals, so I would have to assume that Buddhists, including myself, would have to live by the 5 precepts, which are:
1) Avoid taking the life of any sentient being
2) Avoid taking anything that is not given (no stealing)
3) Avoid sexual misconduct
4) Avoid lying, or any harmful speech.
5) Abstain from taking intoxicants
