There is no such species or sub-species as the "eastern koala".
Koalas vary in height according to whether they are from the north or the southern regions of Australia.
Koalas in northern parts of Australia are smaller, with males growing to a height (or body length) of 74 cm and females growing to 72 cm. Southern koalas are larger. The males can grow to 82 cm and females can grow to 73 cm.
Koalas in Australia's southeast can grow to 82 cm for males, and 73 cm for females.
There is no such creature as a "koala bear," so there are no "koala bears" anywhere in the world.Koalas, on the other hand, which are not bears, are indeed endemic to eastern Australia.
Koalas are not bears, and they do not live in either Africa or China. The koala's habitat is eastern Australia.
The koala's habitat is native eucalyptus bushland in eastern Australia. Koalas live high in eucalyptus trees, which supply all their food and shelter needs.
A koala's colony is always located within eucalyptus bushland. Koala colonies are found along Australia's eastern and southern coast, and inland for several hundred kilometres. Kangaroo Island, off South Australia's coast, has many koala colonies, and a very healthy koala population.
The koala is protected throughout Australia. It is illegal to hunt koalas or keep them as pets. Unfortunately, this does not always mean the koala gets the better deal. Urban development still results in loss of habitat, and a reduction in the koala population in many colonies along the eastern coast.
Koalas are found in eucalyptus forest along the eastern and southeastern coasts of mainland Australia.
The koala's terrain and habitat is eucalypt woodland and bushland.Koalas are particular to Eastern Australia, and can be found along the eastern and south-eastern coastal regions. They live in cool temperate zones, right up to hot, sub-tropical zones. Koalas live in a range of terrains from flat to mountainous to coastal as long as there are abundant eucalyptus trees of the sort they prefer. They are found on coastal islands, tall eucalypt forests, bushland and low woodlands inland.Koalas are not found in rainforests, nor in grasslands or deserts. These biomes do not support the eucalyptus trees which koalas favour. They are also not found in Alpine or snowy regions.

The koala on the whole is best suited to the eastern regions of the Australian continent. It is found as far west as Adelaide (capital of South Australia), up the eastern coast to the base of Cape York Peninsula (far north Queensland). There are three subspecies of koala, but their classification has not been validated. One of these so-called sub-species is the Victorian koala. Coming from the southern, colder climatic areas, it tends to have longer, thicker fur with darker colouring, sometimes including brown on the back and forearms. It has fluffy, white ear tufts, unlike its northern counterparts.
The koala's main defence is its ability to climb tall, straight trees quickly, as their predators are unable to follow. It does have sharp claws, but these are better used for climbing than for defence.
