After the famous emperor died in 1821, his body was autopsied in France, and his height was noted as 5 foot 2 inches. This measurement was in French feet (pieds de roi) and was never correctly converted to standard English measure. In English feet, Napoleon stood 5 foot 6.5 inches tall. So the poor guy was shorted a full 4.5 inches in height.

In his day, 5'6.5" was a perfectly respectable, nothing-to-be-ashamed-of height for a man. In fact, Napoleon was actually slightly taller than the average Frenchman of 1800.

Commonly misunderstood as 5"2', but only because it is 5 pieds 2 pouces - which translates into English terms as 5"6'.
To the person in question: re-edit as "How tall was Napoleon"

Napoleon Bonaparte (Otherwise known as Napoleon I of France), despite popular opinion, was of average height for the time, at 1.7 m tall (or 5 feet, 7 inches)

This misconception is believed to be due to the differences of French and British metrics:

The British inch is 2.54 cm., while the French equivalent (the pouce) is 2.71 cm. This resulted in the widespread belief that Napoleon was a little under 5'3".

(2.54 / 2.71 = 0.937269373 ; 0.937269373 * 67 = 62.797048 ; 63 inches = 5'3")
