How tight should the chain be on a garage door opener as it seems kind of loose and my door goes down about one third of the way stops and goes back up?

about a 1/4 inch above the bottom of the guide rail. something is causing the sensors to stop the door...check to make sure nothing is blocking the motion sensors which are located at the bottom of the frame of the door on both sides. the two sensors have to meet at the same angle, so some easy adjustments might be needed.
