There really is no one way to avoid heartbreak... If she cares about you, she'll be upset. Don't take it personally if she says hurtful things to you; hurt people hurt people. The best way to go about it would be to tell her positive things about her.. Tell her of any area of life she's halped you in, and tell her you never wanted to hurt her. Tell her your reasons for breaking up.. Don't leave her hanging! Try to avoid telling her things that you dislike about her- that will leave her thinking she needs to change, or that she wasn't good enough. Be gentle, and as sweet as possible. If she starts to yell or get upset, don't raise your voice back. Stay calm and steady. Most importantly, DO NOT TEXT IT TO HER! This is a face-to-face conversation. A text or an e-mail will make it that much harder for her. Good luck! Be gentle!
