Short answer: You don't. Longer answer: There is no cabin air filter in the Gen I Solara. They were added to the Gen II cars ('04 onward) and are located directly behind the glove box. If you're experiencing issues with mildewy type odors from your AC vents there are sprays you can use to get rid of it. Check most any auto supply store. You spray it into the HVAC intake to kill mildew and other things that create noxious odors. Also, make sure the AC drain is clear. It should be dribbling water on the ground when the air conditioner is turned on (might take a few minutes so check after you've been driving awhile). Worst case, you disassemble the ducting system behind the dash and clean it thoroughly. Cheers

Answer: You don't. Cabin air filters were introduced on the Solara in 2002. (According to local dealer.) If I am not mistaken, you access the cover by opening the hood and removing the A/C fresh air intake screen and reaching in the opening to unlatch a smaall access door.
