You will need the following: CRC brand aerosol Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner and Security Torx Bit No. T20H. You can purchase the cleaner at most auto stores and you might have to buy a small Torx bit set if you don't have the security bit in your tool box.
Remove the sight shield from the engine buy removing the center nut and the oil fill tube. Lift the shield up in the front and lower the rear to clear the retainer bracket. Replace the oil fill tube and cap the prevent oil contamination. The MAF sensor is located on the top the the throttle body being held on with two diagonally opposed Torx Security Screws. Remove the screws and lift out the MAF sensor sensor then disconnect the wiring connector.
Use the CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner per instructions on the container. The cleaner is very fast drying enabling re-installation right after cleaning. Do not use other cleaners as they may penetrate and damage the sensor electronics. Do not soak the sensor in a plastic bag as the cleaner will indeed penetrate the electronics and ruin the sensor. You will find these erroneous ideas on some web sites and please ignore them.
Reinstall the sensor by reversing the uninstall procedure and start the engine. If the MAF sensor was dirty you will notice an increase in performance and gas mileage as well as faster starting.
