To find out which service is running on which port on Windows XP:
Open the command prompt and type:
NETSTAT -p tcp -ano
Check for local Addess TCP 0.0.0.0:<Port Number>
The last column shows the Process ID (PID)
Open Task manager (CTRL-ALT-DELETE). Right click on the column headers and add "Process ID" (PID), order by process ID, then you can see the process that is listening on your port.
There are also tools like NetConnectManager that allow you to monitor all open TCP/IP and UDP ports on the local computer. NetConnectManager maps ports to the owning applications so you can watch which process has opened and which ports are opened by them.
