You will need to remove the medium that they are growing in. Small amounts of dirt in the cracks of the boards will allow them to continue after removal. Fungicides can be purchased to kill off the spores.

How do you get rid of mushrooms next to your toilet?

I doubt there are mushrooms growing near your toilet? Perhaps you mean fungus. If you have fungus on your walls or ceramics, smear concentrated bleach on the affected area and the fungi will die and their spores will also get bleached. The problem usually does not return as after bleaching spores are rendered useless.

Why are there mushrooms growing in my house?

Mushrooms tend to grow where there are favorable conditions for them and they tend to like darkness and moisture. Things like recent flooding, roof leaks, damp basements, and plumbing leaks may allow mushrooms to appear. It isn't usually as simple as just "cleaning up," however. When you see a mushroom growing, it is really just a small part of the organism. There is a hidden network of roots you do not see, known as the the mycelium. The mushrooms sprout from this. To get rid of the mushroom problem, you have to get rid of everything the roots have grown in, such as wood or carpet. If you have damp or rotting wood or carpet, all of it needs to go because mushrooms can sprout from any mycelium that remains. After everything is removed, you also need to make the area where they were growing unfavorable to them so that the mushrooms don't recolonize the area in the future. Fix any leakage or moisture problems to prevent future growth. It is usually a large amount of work and probably calls for a contractor unless you have a lot of time and skills to do it yourself. However, it is important to get rid of the moisture problem because other things like toxic mold can also take hold.
