I know very little about the process of a hysterectomy, but I do know about weight loss. Here's some tips if you don't want to pack on the pounds: # Eat natural foods, stay away from junk foods. Some examples are: vegetables, fruits, whole grains, water (as appose to coffee, juices high in sugar, soft drinks, and other sugary liquids), fat free skim milk, 100% Orange Juice, green tea, lean meats, and all that other good stuff. # Watch what you put on your foods. Most condiments are high in calories. A simple salad can be ruined by covering it in salad dressing. Low fat & fat free alternatives are sometimes available. # Working with your metabolism. Your metabolism is how fast your body turns food into energy. Eating protein for breakfast will kick-start your metabolism. Most people's metabolisms are at their highest level earlier on in the day, so if you must have a sugary treat, don't do the traditional thing of holding it off until after dinner. # How much you eat. Eating too little will slow down your metabolism, eating too much will make you have too many calories. A little trick is to eat until you're satisfied and then stop, as appose to eating until you're full. # When you eat. You shouldn't have 3 very large meals during the day. You should have 5 or 6 smaller ones. This keeps your body fueled. Most people make the mistake of not eating breakfast, which keeps them hungry throughout the day. # Balanced diets. Balancing your diet is crucial to healthy living. If you're eating salads everyday with no meats in them, you're probably lacking protein in your diet. Make note to not have the same meals everyday.

As much walking as possible but do not overtire yourself. Good diet and do not overeat or binge as you will not be burning off the calories.

Suggestions to lose weight post hysterectomy which induced early surgical menopause?

The best way to lose weight following a hysterectomy is the same as losing weight normally. Diet and exercise are key to maintaining or losing weight however in the period following your hysterectomy you should only exercise gently to start with (walking a bit further each day without tiring yourself). Your diet is key as your enforced lack of mobility initially tends to lead to overeating and comfort eating when you will not burn off calories due to lack of normal exercise.

There seems to be a general agreement that weight is normal after a hysterectomy and that this is primarily caused in the period after the operation due to lack of normal exercise and diet whilst you recuperate.
