Don't. Models are boring. Do an experiment instead.

If you really want to make a model, try to pick something that hasn't been seen a jillion times (for Newton's sake, don't do the "chemical volcano" yet again).

Here's a couple of things that aren't quite as common:

• Foucault pendulum, showing the rotation of the Earth.
• Get different colors of clay, make layers out of them, then push the sides to show geological dome formation. Go take pictures of real domes; if you live in an area where there are "cuts" through rock formations, take pictures of the sides of the cut. Explain why the layers are tilted using your clay model.
• Make a working orrery and use it to illustrate how eclipses work (lunar eclipses are easier to show). You can move the pieces manually instead of using lots of complicated gears.
• Make a model of an atom bomb. The gun-type ("Little Boy") is easiest to show and explain. Paint the "uranium" with fluorescent paint (the kind that's not visible in normal light would be best) and rig it so that a hidden black light bulb turns on when the two pieces get close. (Say "Oh no!" when this happens, pull them apart quickly, then give a sigh of relief... if your teacher has a sense of humor.)
