Go to Control Panel - click on the mouse icon - in the small box that opens - click the Device Settings tab. Put a tick in the box next to the 'disable internal pointing device...' - Click Apply and you're done. To re-enable it - remove the tick.

∙ 12y agoFor laptop computers either have a physical on/off button to easily disable the touch pad or there's an icon in the system tray that lets you manage the various settings of the touchpad. If you don't have that icon, you can go to Control Panel -> Mouse Properties -> Touch Pad to enable or disable the touchpad.

∙ 12y agoI did this - as I prefer to used an external mouse when working at home (I re-enable it when on the move). I'm using Windows 7 operating system. Go to your task-bar and right-click the touch-pad icon - left click on properties. That should open a small dialogue box.
Under the 'Device Settings' tab - Tick the box that says 'disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached' - then click on 'Apply' and close the box.
If you want to re-enable it - just go back in and un-tick the box (remembering to click apply again).
Another way is to go to your control panel, click mouse and go to touchpad settings. Click 'ClickPad Disable'. And there you have it! And just click 'ClickPad Enable' to enable it.
*IDK if it works on all laptops, but mine is HP.
