I don't get the point in heating the bottom of the ant hill
On the ant hill you use the magnifying glass to produce heat by the bottom of the ant hill. You can also catch your pygmys on fire by doing that.

Each ant hill has a queen. She lays eggs. She carries sperm in her body. If she uses a sperm to fertilize an egg, it becomes a female ant which becomes a worker ant and takes care of the ant hill. If she does not use a sperm, the egg becomes a male ant with wings. Every now and then some of the female worker ants become large and develop wings. On certain nights those are kicked out of the ant hill along with the males. They fly for several miles. Sometimes they meet with groups from other ant hills. Then they stop. The males deposit their sperm inside the females. Every time a male deposits his sperm inside a female, he walks a little distance away and dies. The fertilized female then flies away to find a good place to start her own ant hill. She lays her eggs. She bites off her wings. Enzymes turn her flight muscles to liquid. She uses that liquid to feed her babies. When they are grown, they will become workers and will feed her next crop of babies.
ant's

Both are correct sentences, but "The ant is an insect" is more specific as it refers to a particular ant. "An ant is an insect" is a general statement about ants as a group.
